How to make the most of white clothing...

White JacketFrom the classic runway of Ralph Lauren to a newbie catwalk like Rachel Zoe’s, white rules this season. It’s crisp, pretty and feels cool, just the thing for hotter months. But white is actually a tricky color to pull off. Its reputation is of marshmallow-like fluffiness and visible underwear. Below, we’ve compiled a few hints and tricks to make your whites sleek and sophisticated.

Underneath white:

Fortunately, most of us don’t endure the harshness of paparazzi flashbulbs. That being said, a good beam of sunlight can still make for embarrassing reveals. Check your white first by putting your hand under the fabric and holding it up to the light. No problem if you can see a hint of hand but if the color of your skin and details of your hand are fairly visible, you could be embarrassed later. Of course lined, heavier cottons are always a good bet.

It is a rookie mistake to think that white underwear goes best under white clothing. For the smartest camouflage, opt for underwear that best matches the tone and color of your skin.

Flattering your shape with white:

Enjoy the freedom of the summer months by choosing a flowing white dress. It’s not a great color for clinging, tight nightclub outfits. It tends to be a bit unforgiving when worn form fitting.

Accessorizing with white:

Wooden jewelry is particularly sharp against a white outfit. Shoes in white can be too much. Aim, instead, for bronzes, golds, even browns or camel colored neutrals.
