We all want something to hold onto – and fashion-wise, it doesn’t get better than this.  A wide variety of clutch handbags have made the runway rounds recently, from structured, small numbers to slouchy larger ones; from fold-over types to purses with shiny chains draped over the wrist.

Here’s the great news: clutch purses are turning up in all manner of materials, textures, sizes and shapes, so you should have no trouble finding one that suits you well.

Gone are the days of clutches being limited to a minute size that fits just a lipstick, cash and a few cards; nowadays there’s a lot more room, and style, in your hand-held bag.

Among the recently popular styles: knitted and metallic exteriors and chains, prints, small satchel-style totes, wristlets, fold-overs and tiny shoulder bags.

Typically, clutches are held close to the body, tight under the arm, though the smaller varieties are often simply carried in the hand. Some of the most popular and functional varieties of late have a strap along the body that you can slip your hand through for ease of carrying, and can make for some fun detailing.

Prints are most versatile in neutral shades, though bold color prints are really big for spring – just be careful when pairing the louder patterns with your wardrobe, and balance brighter clutches with basic tones in apparel.

Metallics, chains and shiny tones tend to work best for evenings, while basic leathers, knits and matte styles function well for day.

Armed with all those choices, snag your snazzy new satchel and step out.
